If you are like me, (relatively new to the world of I.M.) you spend a lot of time chasing “shiny objects“. You know that one system exists that does it all for you with only 7 mouse clicks!
The sales pages are compelling. There are graphics, videos, music, and testimonial after testimonial. “My God, this is it! I can feel it.” So you buy it for $47 and feel like you are getting a great value. Then the guy comes back on and says, “you have made a great choice by purchasing my system but…..if you want to really see your bank account stuffed with cash, you will want to get ahead of all of the others with this wiz-bang super charged traffic grabbing upgrade.”
“I was going to let this go for $2,113.89 but I want you to have what I didn’t have when I was starting. But I know money is tight so I am not going to charge you $2,113.89, I’m not even going to charge you $1,565.45, or $799.99. My programmer is going to kill me but today, and only for the next 60, 59, 58 seconds I am only going to charge only $197.97. You will get………………..”
Well, “I have to get ahead of the competition, and there is a moneyback guarantee so………….. OK, Ill do it. This is going to be great!” You confirm the order and …..” I want to thank you for joining the team of winners but there is something you will want to know that I only share with my inside team. (you see, now that you bought the first offer and the special one-time offer, I think they call it an up sell, you are on their team! Feel the success?)
“For the next 20 people only, I will personally coach you, one-on-one, through the entire process. This includes: 16 webinars, 128 videos, 1283 templates, and my best traffic getting software.”
OK, OK, you know the rest. You get sucked in(after buying 1-3 more up sells) and now begin to wonder why you needed all of these add-ons if the base product was as great as he said it was.
You wait for the e-mail that eventually comes, write down your user name and password, and charge to the member’s area. There you watch a few of the videos, check out the 237 bonus items (because they always like to over-deliver) and decide you have accomplished enough for one day. “I’ll get back at this tomorrow” you think. And have every intention of doing just that.
Tomorrow comes, you log on to your computer to check your e-mails and see that you have 349 new ones. You can’t help but wonder if there might be a real “gem” buried in there somewhere. After sorting through the countless Viagra pitches from someone named Sissy129, you spot something that looks interesting. No website, no FTP, no selling. I have got to look at this.
And it all starts again. Sound familiar? I know the routine all to well. Next time you find yourself chasing that “shiny object” remember this post and how crazy you(we) are to do this over and over and over…………..! Maybe we can start a self-help group. I will work on the name. If you have any ideas, please share them with me.
